OVERVIEW
We are Red Eagle Soaring (RES), a Seattle-based 501(c)(3) serving urban Native American youth. We prioritize accessibility with free arts education, integrating contemporary theatre and traditional Native performing arts.
We foster our students’ confidence and sense of cultural identity by providing space to create and grow with their peers. Our students and their families are integral in this work, as we encourage our youth to center their lived experience and become leaders in their communities through service and collaboration.
RES continues to serve our students with annual scholarship and mentorship opportunities, as well as career guidance. Our team works to ensure our youth are set up for success in whatever path they choose. Once our students graduate from the program, we work to further foster their creative and professional goals through our Alumni program, YTT (Yesterday/Today/Tomorrow) Urban Native Performing Artists. We are currently expanding our offerings to create performance and educational opportunities for all Indigenous performing artists here in Seattle.
HISTORY
Since 1991, RES has mentored hundreds of Native youth, staged over 200 productions throughout Seattle, King County, and beyond, and supported youth access to the healing power of Native culture and community.
In 2023, we opened our first permanent space, the Red Eagle Soaring Theatre at King Street Station. A part of Station Space, a youth empowerment hub, RES collaborates with our nonprofit community partners Totem Star and The Rhapsody Project, in an effort to make comprehensive arts education accessible to all of Seattle’s youth.
RES programming supports the ‘Since Time Immemorial’ Washington state tribal history and sovereignty curriculum developed by the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction. We are committed to supporting our youth in sustaining their cultural heritage, and incorporating the diverse traditions, histories, and cultures of Seattle’s and King County’s tribal origins and urban multicultural setting.
